Powers of attorney

The notarial functions of the Argentine Consulate authorize it to draft powers of attorney to be used in the Argentine Republic, without the need for subsequent legalization or apostille of the document.

To request the processing of a power of attorney, the person(s) granting it must:

  • Be of legal age

  • Provide the original DNI (if the applicant is Argentine) or passport (if the applicant is foreign), identical to the one that will appear in the power of attorney. This document must be valid and current.

  • A draft or outline of the power of attorney, provided to the applicant by their lawyer or notary in Argentina. This draft must include: full name, identity document, marital status, and address of the person granting the power of attorney. The address of the person granting the power must be within the jurisdiction of this Consulate. If you reside in the jurisdiction of this Consulate but have not yet updated your address in your DNI, you may do so on the same day you execute the power of attorney. If you are temporarily within the jurisdiction of this Consulate and require a power of attorney, this circumstance must be stated in the document. You must also attach a copy of the DNI of the person(s) who will be appointed as attorney(s)-in-fact under the requested power of attorney.

How to start the process

Send to notarial_catla@mrecic.gob.ar a photo of the aforementioned DNIs or passports and attach a Microsoft Word text document with the content of the draft or outline of the power of attorney.
The Consulate will review the documentation, determine the fee based on the length of the power of attorney, and respond with an appointment date and time.
Please note that the cost of the procedure varies according to the length of the document. The power of attorney (including the first testimony) costs 80 dollars for every 25 lines or fraction thereof. The total amount will depend on the length and will be informed to you by email once you have submitted the draft or content of the power of attorney.

Completion of the process

On the agreed date and time, the person granting the power of attorney must present the original DNI or passport and sign the document before the highest authority of the Consulate. The Consulate will immediately deliver the power of attorney in paper form (as testimony), and within 48 business hours will send you by email a PDF of the document and the certification of the Consul’s signature.

Remarks

If personal travel to the Consulate is impossible, the person granting a power of attorney in Argentina may also resort to a U.S. “notary public.” The signature of the “notary public,” in order to be valid in Argentina, must be supplemented by a Hague Apostille affixed to that power of attorney. You should consult the same “notary public” regarding this U.S. Apostille.
