1) I am an Argentine citizen but I am traveling to Argentina with a U.S. passport. Can I use this foreign passport to leave Argentina?
Argentine citizens and U.S. nationals who enter Argentina with a U.S. passport must exit Argentina with the appropriate Argentine documentation unless their stay in the country has not exceeded ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY (180) consecutive days. In this case, they are allowed to leave with the travel document of their acquired nationality, which they used to enter the country (Resolution DNM 2742/2009 of 12/18/09)
2) I am processing my U.S. residency and I need a "certificate of good conduct." What should I do?
For those applying for permanent residency in the United States, it is suggested to visit the following link for "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services". This link indicates that you must request this certificate of good conduct, specifically mentioning "with the exception of Article 51 of the Penal Code." Those who include this mention can do so in the criminal background check application form mentioned in point II.2., following "To be submitted to.......". For more information on how to process this through this Consulate General, click here.
3) I am an Argentine citizen and I want to know if I can enter Argentina with my expired passport.
Yes. However, we remind compatriots that some airlines do NOT allow people to leave the United States if they do not present a passport with a validity period of at least 6 months from the date of travel. Therefore, to avoid any inconvenience, it is suggested to check with the airline for the minimum validity period required for passports in order to travel.
4) Can the Consulate inform me about how to visit or emigrate to the United States and provide me with job advice?
Due to the numerous inquiries received at this Consulate General from people who wish to travel or settle in the United States for any reason, it is important to highlight that this Consulate General has no jurisdiction over the procedures or decisions of U.S. authorities regarding the approval of the relevant visa that every Argentine citizen wishing to enter this country must obtain. The various types of visas must be requested at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires. Only U.S. immigration authorities have the right to approve or deny entry to foreigners into their territory and to establish the requirements for doing so.
5) How can I obtain my Argentine birth certificate?
Argentines living abroad can obtain birth, marriage or death certificates issued in the Argentine Republic. In Argentina, each province has its own Registry. The Consulate does not process these certificates, which must be requested by the interested party directly from the Civil Registry corresponding to the place where the act (birth, marriage, death) occurred.
Visit the following link to request it online.
6) I am an Argentine citizen and I need to know if I can have U.S. citizenship (and/or citizenship of a third country) without losing my Argentine citizenship.
Law 346 establishes that Argentine citizenship is not lost when acquiring another nationality.
7) Is the immigration fee still in effect for U.S. passport holders entering Argentina for tourism purposes?
By Executive Decree 959/2016, the entry fee to Argentina for tourism purposes for U.S. citizens holding ordinary passports was eliminated.
As for Argentine citizens who also hold U.S. citizenship, they are not required to pay the fee. It should be noted that some airlines have requested documentation proving Argentine nationality in order to allow the passenger to board the plane.
8) Is any vaccination certificate required to enter Argentina?
No vaccination certificate is required to enter Argentina, except for cholera and yellow fever for passengers arriving from countries where these diseases are endemic. For more information, please visit this link.
9) Is there a minimum validity period required for passports to enter Argentina?
No minimum validity period is required for passports to enter Argentina. They only need to be valid. However, since most flights to Argentina have layovers in third countries, airlines require passports to have a minimum validity period in accordance with the requirements of those countries. Therefore, to avoid any inconvenience, it is suggested to check with the airline for the minimum validity period required for passports in order to travel.
